And we're off!

Tonight we fly up to Luleå for a week. FINALLY!

Tomorrow we are going to Malin and Dave's wedding. It will be great to see them again and especially little Matilda who was born in August. They live in Australia so we don't get to see them very often..

Hopefully the weather will be nice so we can be outdoors a lot. This season we call "spring-winter" up north and it is normally really lovely. Still loads of snow but quite warm and sunny. We might try to buy our very own cross country skiis and I do hope we'll have a chance to use them. If the weather is bad I guess we can always stay indoors and play cards, pool, carcasonne and eat loads of food! ;-)

Of course we will also go and see some family which will be nice. I have a feeling they are all quite keen to see the bump..

So, if you don't hear from us for a while, be patient. We'll be back in about a week!

Head board done!

The head board is finished now so that is one more project done. It will probably be a while until the sofa can be added to the "finished" list..

Week 31

Yesterday's checkup at the midwife went just fine. The bump is growing like it should, the piglet's heart sounds good and my blood preassure is fine.

Fetal Development:
Growth begins to slow a teeny bit, and the brain goes through a period of rapid development. The only major organ left to fully develop is the lungs. If your baby is a boy, his testes begin to descend from the body cavity to the scrotum.

The weather is beautiful at the moment. When we got home yesterday (as early as 5 pm!) it was 14.8 degrees and sunny outside. Lovely. It looks like today is going to just as nice. A shame one has to be at work... :-(

Sunday bloody Sunday

Another weekend is coming to an end. We were promised +10 degrees and sunshine but it has mostly been quite cold and cloudy. Today we got some sunshine though. Very nice!

Hope you notice the photo albums we have published on the right! Here are some more bump pictures by the way, taken one week apart.

So, back to work tomorrow :-(. Only one more week to go till we have a whole week off though. Can't wait! Hopefully we'll get some nice weather in Luleå so we can go ice fishing and cross country skiing.

Vickan bought the first baby clothes on Friday. I was a bit surprised to see that the baby could wear them for a whole year until Vickan told me it was for 0-1 month.

By the way, today it is exactly 2 months until the expected delivery date of the little piglet!

6-month anniversary

Today is our 6-month anniversary in case you didn't know! ;-) Can't believe it is 6 months since that lovely day in September...

Dave managed to fix the charger by the way (such a handy-man) so the camera is working again. I have just been a bit too busy lately to find the time to upload pictures. Will do it this weekend, I promise!

Have done some more work on the sofa. I can tell you that sewing velcro isn't the easiest thing in this world. And unfortunately I made a mistake with one of the pieces yesterday and had to spend one hour undoing all my work.. Oh well, I guess it had to happen sooner or later. Not giving up yet!!

Lovestruck hares and IKEA

Yesterday we left work a bit early and went to IKEA to pick up some baby stuff. As we were (carefully) getting the car out of the garage we saw a quite funny sight.

We quite often have one or two hares running around in the garden and now it seems like they are a bit high on "spring feelings" and not quite aware of what's going on around them. As I was walking across the parking lot one of them came running towards me and when it finally saw me it got quite scared and turned around. Then the next one came running, saw me and the car Dave was reversing and got scared and froze. The first one came running again and all of a sudden they both took a leap and crashed in mid-air! Quite a sight! Then they took of and we wished we had had a camera to capture the funny sight! ;-)

IKEA was as always quite energy consuming even though it was pretty quiet. Finally we had decided on what cot we wanted and went to the counter to order it. Then it turned out we also had to pick matress (didn't expect there to be much choice) so we had to go back to the baby-section, squeeze a few samples and then we decided on one. We also bought a duvet.
Hope the piglet will like its bed and sleep well! Dave didn't think much of the sheets IKEA had though so we'll try to buy that somewhere else. The check-out queue was not very long at all but it seemed to be the slowest in the world, but we did get to pay in the end and then we went to pick up the bed.

We have decided to wait with putting it up since we don't have that much space in our little flat, but at least we have bought it now. One thing to cross off the list.

Broken camera

We might have some problems posting photos for a while. A while ago the battery charger for our camera broke down and the replacement charger we bought hasn't been working very well. Yesterday it didn't work at all and the battery is completely empty :-(

I guess we have been thinking about getting a new camera anyway but it is still annoying.. Would be nice to still have this old thing working since it is quite small and easy to take when going places. If we buy a new camera it will probably be one of those bigger ones. We'll see what happens. Maybe the charger starts working again!

DIY frenzy II

The hall (continued)
After quite a lot of hard work the hall is finally finished and this is what it looks like now.
Of course there are still a few small details to sort out (isn't there always) but the main part is done anyway.

New sofa cover
A long long time ago I (Viktoria) bought a sofa at IKEA. I thought it would be quite cool to have a red one and it was quite cool until it got bleached by the sun and took on a rather pink shade. So for a few years now I have been thinking about making a new cover for the sofa (can't buy it ready made unfortunatelly since IKEA don't sell the sofa anymore) and in October I finally bought 11 metres of brown fabric and a few weeks ago I finally worked up the courage to start. I think it would have been clever to start before the bump arrived, it is a wee bit uncomfortable to crawl around on the floor to cut the pieces. But as we say in Sweden, if the head is stupid, the body suffers. ;-) Dave have been a bit sceptical to me pulling it off, but now he seems a bit more positive. To be honest I am a bit sceptical myself, but I try to ignore it and just keep on. Unfortunatelly I haven't planned all my purchases very well so I keep running out of thread or realising I have forgot to buy something important. Again it is appropriate with a swedish saying; what one doesn't have in the head, one has to have in the legs. I am pretty confident I will finish the main part of the sofa quite soon though and then I "only" have the cushions left. I am a bit nervous about doing them though since I haven't sown zips since school- surely I'll manage though. How hard can it be!!?? (aaaah)

Head board for the bed
We have about the most basic bed you can have. Two IKEA beds put together, no frame or anything else to improve its look. Since we don't have a huge bedroom we haven't wanted to put in a big bedframe though (and Dave is worried about hitting his knees and toes if the bed has hard edges) but we still wanted to make it look a bit nicer. As always Vickan suggested building a head board and Dave thought it might be better to buy one. After a bit of discussion we decided to try to make a head board ourselves so this Saturday we bought a huge piece eof MDF, some foam, a stapler gun and some fabric. The foam was glued to the board and then we stapled the fabric over it and "hepp" we have a head board. The fabric we have on it now is just a protective layer and we are still looking for a nice looking one to cover it with, but even now you can see how nice it will look! And it is sooo much nicer to sit up and read when there is a soft head board to lean against.

Week 30

info from http://www.pregnancyguideonline.com

Fetal Development:
Our little one is nearly three pounds already and growing like a weed.

The early lanugo is disappearing, the eyelids open and close, and the toenails are growing. The bone marrow is now responsible for red blood cell production.

DIY frenzy

Apart from making a baby, getting married, going on honeymoon and changing job, we have also managed to do some DIY at home. (DIY = Do It Yourself)

The hall
Ever since moving in to the flat, Vickan has had plans to redo the hall. It took a while to figure out what we really wanted to do, but finally we started in October. First we stripped down all the wallpaper and left behind a worringly crumbly wall. We were forced to "spackle" the whole thing, a job we were quite worried about but it turned out to be quite easy.

After the spackling came the quite horrible job of sanding the walls. We were breathing in spackle dust for days and the hoover had to work very hard.

Finally the walls and the roof were ready to be painted. And just to prove that Vickan did work too, here is a picture of it.

Next step was to get a shoe rack up on the wall and to put up the wallpaper. The shoe rack was easy to do but the wallpaper was a bit of a challenge since we were both wallpapering virgins. We almost came to blows when we put it up and it ended up a bit wonky, but all in all it was good enough and we are pleased with the end result.

Now all that remained was to put up a little partition, coat-hangers and to wait for the delivery of our chest of drawers. The hall was finally completed in the middle of January.

We have other DIY projects going on at the moment, but we don't have time to write about it now..

The bump

This is what the bump looked like on March 3rd.

Everything still ok

Had a checkup at the midwife yesterday. Everything is A-ok. The baby's heartrate was at 140 and the bump has grown like it should.

Vickan has had a bit of trouble with sleeping coz her nose is so blocked, the midwife will check up what can be done about it.

Week 29

We are now in week 29 (I think anyway ;-) ) and this is what happens:

Fetal Development:
Seventh MonthThe baby's head is in proportion to the rest of the body. Fat continues to accumulate under the skin. The brain can control primitive breathing and body temperature control, and the eyes can move in the sockets. The baby is becoming sensitive to light, sound, taste and smell.
